Good evening addicts! As those of you who have been following this blog for a while already know... last night was one of my fave nights of the year. Yes, I'm obsessed with award show season. I love it, I live for it, & I love that my husband watches them with me (full of his own opinions of course).

Overall, I thought last night was pretty fantastic. There wasn't really anyone who just completely missed the mark.. in all fairness they're wanting to feature their personal style on the red carpet.

I loved the palettes people chose, the hair, the makeup, the jewels. There was never an, "oh my god what was she thinking" moment.. just a few, "hmm... not sure about that one".

On the opposite end of the spectrum: those who were good, were really good...

Jessica Alba in Gucci.

Such a fresh color. Her skin was literally glowing & her hair was exactly what this dress needed. I love that while this isn't a completely out there look it's still not something we've seen a million times before.

Angelina Jolie in Versace.

Clean, classic, & crisp. Always knows how to do the red carpet.

Charlize Theron in Dior Couture.

A fan favorite & such an awesome statement. She's always 'bringing it' & we all seem to agree on what she 'brought'.

Claire Danes in J.Mendel.

I am a sucker for an awesome back detail, so between the plunge & the adornment I'm literally obsessed with this. I really love the whole: business in the front, party in the back vibe ;)

Diana Agron in Giles Deacon.

What amazing detail. So cool.

Elle McPherson in Zac Posen.

A bit bridal but the silhouette is awesome. Everyone couldn't stop talking about how young she looks.. rightfully so.

Emma Stone in Lanvin.

It's official (as if it weren't already) Emma Stone is my girl crush. She is so cool it's not even fair. Who else can wear an eagle accented belt to the Golden Globes?? The color + the styling = flawless.

After the holidays, in these cold wintery months, we don't have too much to look forward to past our peppermint mochas..

Fear not! addicts, award show season is upon us.. and while the major media buzzed about ones have yet to start we have a few gorge Critic's Choice Awards red carpet looks to gush over while waiting for Sunday.

Not one of my favorites from Diane Kruger but I do appreciate the attempt at trying something different with this Prada gown.

She's becoming one of my faves on the red carpet. Fashion forward like her sisters, Elizabeth looks radiant in this bright Pucci dress.

We know that there has been a fair share of chatter about Clooney's choice in having Stacy as his current main squeeze... but I have to say: So far so good. The few times she's attended events with him she's looked ravishing & this Armani look continues the trend superbly.

Kirstin looks young & hip in this Christian Dior tulle dress.

Michelle Williams looking classic & chic in this Chanel gown. I love how unexpected the hemline is.

First of all, when I went to see The Descendants last week there wasn't a moment where Shailene Woodley was on screne where I wasn't asking myself, "Could she be any prettier??". I also couldn't wait to see her dolled up on the red carpet and to me this simple Calvin Klein gown is a great way to kick things off!

LOVE this color & definitely agree on her win for Best Actress for her role in The Help. Viola Davis is rockin' this Raoul gown!!

Statuesque Charlize Theron looking divine in this Azzedine Alaia gown. This is the perfect to do a simple black dress in a very different way.

Emma Stone. Need I say more? She seriously can do no wrong. Young, vibrant, & unexpected - a red carpet trifecta.

The Art of Layering

Alas, we have come to the time of the year where we must consider warmth as an important variable in our outfit selecting each morning. I woke up this morning knowing that there was a cold front coming in (my husband might as well be a part-time weatherman;) but boy! I was not expecting cold versus cool--eh, I suppose that's why it's called a cold front. Yuck.
In a last minute scramble, I rummaged through my closet and put together the closest ensemble I had to remain semi-warm: cardigan, jeggings, and boots.

Once I arrived at the store later on this morning I felt like this would be an appropriate topic for today's blog!

Layers are key when trying to fight off the cold when you're out and about but don't want to burn up while sitting at the office. If you have a more casual work environment jeans with boots and a sweater are essentials to looking casual chic. A chunky scarf will aid in keeping warm while braving the outdoors.
Now if you're looking for a more polished look, a leather jacket is key to completing your outfit. Now as for keeping your legs and toes warm a good pair of leggings partnered with these chic quilted rain boots (only $58!) create the perfect put together combo.

Just remember to keep your layers slim to the body unless you're looking for the super cozy comfy look with a chunky sweater. If you layer like these two looks shown here you'll look ready to go and prepared to conquer any weather that comes your way-- all while looking effortlessly fashionable!

It's been so great seeing Julianne Hough on the red carpet these days! I think she's doing an amazing job of keeping it youthful yet classy at all of her events leading up to the Footloose release!

I love this. I'm actually jealous of how well Kim pulled off this unexpected color combo. I'm a huge fan of 'tennis ball yellow' and it looks amazing with this teal pencil skirt!

Mrs. Richie-Madden running errands looking FAB. She always has this effortless way of looking so 'cool'. Love the shoes and the hemline on the skirt!

Sparkle shorts = loooooove. Another effortless look for this week's blog. Selena rocked this look and definitely mastered the 'I'm not trying too hard'.

If you aren't familiar with the recent craze around Missoni items then you have seriously been living under a rock.

Target recently had a collaboration with the actual designer which lead to complete chaos for the mass retailer-- empty shelves, crashed website, angry label-obsessed shoppers, and a media frenzy over the lack of preparedness Target had for this onslaught of demand. However, no one can disregard Target's brilliance behind the concept of giving budget conscious (and unconscious) fashionistas coveted designer labels at a Target price.

You're probably wondering why a fab'rik girl is chatting about another company's recent concept. Well, it's because the Missoni madness has spread-- everywhere. The brand is widely recognized for it's signature zig-zag print, which other companies have picked up that this is the reason behind the hype.

Just looking around our store (per the picture;) you can find items inspired by this accomplished Italian fashion house.

Tricky Trend: Leopard Print

What's the trend we've been spotting (ha) all season? Leopard prints of course!

While this has been a trend rocked by many fashionistas over the years-- it has definitely made its way into the mainstream recently.

There are so many ways to rock this trend: You can opt for a key piece (blouse, skirt, jacket) to create your outfit around the print or a hint of the trend to add a little somethin' somethin' to your look (shoes, bag, scarf).

Leopard print looks awesome paired with cognac, red, black, and brown.

Emma Stone... being Emma Stone.. aka Awesome. I'm looooving this mustard satin Lanvin clutch. Honestly, the clutch is stealing the show but I have an appreciation for this deep-deep teal gown-- anything that's not black for a change on a red carpet is so fun to me!

Obviously, Heidi's body makes this look all the more kick ass. Animal prints are huge for fall but I'm loving this spin on the popular print with a white background vs. the typical brown or black.

Jennifer Aniston always does suit-like ensembles to a T. However, I just loved the bustier look underneath the vest. I adore a vest for fall in place of a blazer. And the accessories are perfection for keeping this casual and cool!

Yes, the hair is big. But when you take into consideration that Julianne Hough was premiering her latest movie in Nashville-- it's very audience appropriate ;) I love the color of the dress, the length, as well as the sparkle.. so NashVegas.

Last, but not least, Mrs. Reese Witherspoon rocking a combo that I just lurve. We have so many blazers in the store right now that all you have to do is stop by fab'rik to recreate this party perfect look!

Keepin' Your Colored Denim Fresh!

The last thing any fashionista would want to do is ruin the "it" statement piece of the season: their colored denim.
So, I figured I'd do some research to help us all keep those red jeans poppin' all season long!
I looked to Glamour magazine's website for some tips & tricks to keep your color fresh!
Be sure to check out the article... all I can say it has a little something to do with vinegar! Who knew?
Also, if you haven't tried this trend-- you should definitely stop by fab'rik & try on our new line DL1961 which has the best pair of red skinnies you could ask for!

Emmy Wrap Up

Lovely curves ahead as Sofia Vergara looks regal in this Vera Wang gown. The coral color compliments her olive skin tone and the jewels are a great accent for the simple gown.

My least favorite from the night. Olivia Munn is a super cute girl but there is nothing cute about this look. The color, cut, and fit is so wrong.

I love the hue of this dress as well as it's shape. I think that Katie picked a dress that was very flattering on her but I'm not loving the hair. A bit too messy for how clean this Calvin Klein number.

I don't watch Vampire Diaries but if I were a dude.. I would totally watch to see how hot Nina Dobrev looks each week. Yep, I said it. She could stop traffic in this ultra-glam, super-red Donna Karan gown.

A more demure red look: Lea Michelle looking gorgeous in this plunging back Marchesa gown. Love the color on her and I'm totally obsessed with the shoulder detail. I always love a good Gaga-esque shoulder ;)

Ah, there is sooo much I love about this dress. However, I just cannot get past the midriff. I'm a firm believer that the midriff doesn't belong on the red carpet-- and I have yet to find any evidence that supports otherwise. I love the beading, the silhouette, the sleeve-- pretty much everything besides the fact that the designers at Emilio Pucci decided to leave out a crucial part of the dress ;)

Lovely miss Emily Blunt looking divine in this Elie Saab number. Excellent arm candy for her nominated husband that evening.

Underwhelmed is the word that comes to mind for last night's red carpet. We've gone months without a serious red carpet so I was eagerly anticipating last night's fashions and was seriously let down. There were definitely a few that I really enjoyed, some not so much ,and some not at all. Overall it was just a big loud sigh.

Love this color palette and the intricacy of the dress. The shoe combination is so unexpected which makes it super fun.
I love the print and colors of this dress. It's so fun and flirty but yet still a great transition into fall.

She has become my ultimate girl crush. Her red carpet looks are always so spot on for me and always incredibly age appropriate while presenting an element of surprise. I heart Emma Stone.

I love this flirty look SJP rocked at one of her recent How Does She Do It? It's still very SJP but very fitting for the event she was attending. Also, Prabal Gurung is one of my red carpet faves!!

My favorite of the week. Actually probably my favorite of the month. I love everything about this Elie Saab gown on Diane Kruger. She always leans towards the ethereal look but the sparkle keeps this look very modern.

I had to give two high-fives to Ashley Tisdale this week because I love the idea of finding simple, age-appropriate dresses paired with the right accessories to rock various events. Both choices are very young yet sophisticated-- a line that's frequently hard to nail in young Hollywood.

I have to say, having grown up watching the VMAs, last night didn't disappoint. Jam packed with tons of dynamic performances, tributes, and surprises, I thought that it was a really great show--where the pop divas (Britney, Beyonce-- baby bump!!, Gaga, Katie) reigned supreme. It was super entertaining to watch & not nearly as boring as some in the past. Leave it to Gaga to keep things interesting dressed as her male counterpart, Jo Calderone. So many people were confused by this but I suppose you have to be a little monster to truly understand ;) and that I certainly am!

It's hard to believe, but fall is quickly approaching! That means cooler weather, football season, and back to school! If you're armed with these essentials, you'll be sure to have a stylish semester!

First, the perfect outfit for class. If you have to get up and go, don't make it worse by wearing the t-shirt you slept in the night before. I like to throw on a great pair of skinny jeans and this adorable belted sweater! You'll be sure to get an A! You grade is directly related to how cute your outfit is, right??

Next, the perfect party outfit. I love this patterened romper! The motif is so fun and precious with wedges for those back to school parties. As the weather simmers down, you can even pair the romper with a cropped jacket or blazer & boots. You'll be ready to dance the night away!

Thirdly, a classic coat. I love to tailgate in a flowy dress in my teams colors, but it cools down at night towards the end of the season! I just throw on this cream coat by Tulle as I walk into the stadium. It goes well with everything! So no matter who you are cheering for, this coat is essential!

Last, but certainly not least, a tote bag. Getting back into the habit of going to class is tough-- but, it makes it a little easier if you can throw those books into an amazing tote bag!

The Duchess of Cambridge made the list twice this week. I made a prediction that once she was in the US she would be donning a DVF dress and I was right! I'm happy to see her in a bright kelly green vs her typical navy ensembles she's been wearing a lot lately! Simple, yet elegant!

Another Alexander McQueen stunner. This lilac gown was an excellent choice for the recent BAFTA Awards in Los Angeles. The future queen looked beyond regal in this choice!

Blake Lively chose this flowy Marchesa frock to wear for the BAFTA Awards and to meet Prince William and the Duchess. I thought the silhouette was spot-on and very appropriate for the evening's events.

The Olsen sisters were a fashion trifecta at the Row's accessories launch this week. I love the mixtures of prints, textures, and accessories! So happy that they've parted ways with the overly-billowed outfits!

I am totally planning on doing a Catherine in North America wrap up this week because literally everything she's worn while touring Canada/LA has been phenomenal. I had to include this dress because as usual Kate's understated elegance always shines!

A red carpet event that its main objective is to bring you the most fashion-forwarded, star-filled, fashion-designing crowd? Yes, please! And, where can I get my ticket??

Last night's MET Gala soirée in honor of the late great Alexander McQueen was everything it should be: sparkle, shine, tulle, taffeta-- too much-- so much, that only an event in his honor would be appropriate for such extravagance & fluff. The fashion world looks forward to this annual night where fantasy takes precendence over conformity.

Pictures speak a thousand words, so rather than analyzing a red carpet where the only rule is to outdo the 'competition', I'm going to let the photos do the talking.

The Royal Red Carpet

The lace appliqué on the skirt of the dress was handmade by the Royal School of Needlework using the carrickmacross technique. The lace on the dress was Catherine's "something old". The dress was adorned with hand cut English lace & French Chantilly on the ivory silk gazar skirt with 58 covered buttons clasping the back of the dress. Blue ribbon was was added to the skirt as well to be Kate's "something blue".

The tiara was Kate's "something borrowed", from HRH the Queen of England. This Cartier "halo" tiara was given to Queen Elizabeth by her father on her eighteenth birthday.

Kate's diamond earrings by Robinson Pelham were here "something new" given to her by her parents. The oak-leaf & acorn design was carefully crafted to replicate the Middleton family's new coat of arms.

Everyone knows that I love everything that has to do with fashion: textures, colors, fabrics, accessories, silhouettes, designers, models, fashion shows-- you name it, I love it.

However, in the past couple of years of girlfriends getting hitched and then myself recently planning my own wedding, I have found a new obsession (literally): weddings.
So when the world is hosting the most regal & fashion conscious wedding for all of us to see: I am the fanatic sitting on the couch at 5am waiting for all things fashion and, of course, wedding.

When I was younger Lady Di could do no wrong. Every time she graced the pages of a magazine I was always in awe of her beauty & grace. Her fashion sense & poise was truly one of a princess. We always knew it would take a very special someone to even hold a candle to her presence.

I still remember already loving everything that Catherine Middleton was wearing several years ago when her and Prince William were merely girlfriend/boyfriend. As their relationship progressed, so did her sense of style. She too possesses that certain 'je ne sais quoi' quality that Diana did so well. She wears simple dresses & suits paired with the perfect shoes & accessories so effortlessly.

I, along with 2 billion others, watched and waited Friday morning in immense anticipation to see what Princess Catherine would don on her most special day. I had been hoping and wishing that she would choose British designer Alexander McQueen, so when I heard that Sarah Burton was the designer I knew it was going to be a spectacular creation. The late genius himself would be so proud of what his new Creative Director has so thoughtfully constructed for the future Queen.

In my eyes it was royal wedding perfection-- I don't think they could have done anything better than they did. The neckline, the lace, the train, the silhouette, the veil, the tiara: all came together to create the most perfect bride. The tender moments between the young couple also made this a wedding everyone will be talking about for years and years to come.

One of my favorite things to do at fab'rik is to see how each store merchandises & displays our inventory. It's so fun to look at how we all do things differently while still maintaining our fab'rik vision.
So it was particularly interesting to me when I saw that the 3 other stores had their mannequins rocking our new bright mint jeggings just like we did! We had just put them in the midtown window as well so I figured this was the perfect way to showcase four different ways to wear this summer trend of colored jeans! I love how each store has a completely different look for these haute pants!

All That Flare

As we've all heard a million times, 70s glamour is all the rage this season. Killer platforms, disco-worthy dresses, & floral motifs were all over the runways. The trickiest of them all? The super-flared jean.

Gone are the days of thinking that flared jeans only belong in the 70s era because they are very much a part of everything spring 2011. They are an easy fix to a dull wardrobe and can be worn tons of different ways!

Pair yours with a flowy blouse or even a button down & blazer combo or you can rock a tee & cool necklace. Shoes? They look great with an assortment of different shoes: heels, wedges, & platforms!

Today, our resident fab'rik mommy & fab'rik owner, Dana Spinola, is presenting spring trends to a group of Atlanta mom's-- Mother's of Pre-schooler's to be exact. Sometimes moms get in their heads that they can no longer wear the new fashions & statement pieces of the season. But then again, in the midst of carpools and play dates, time with the husband, laundry, errands-- you get the idea-- who has time to wrap their head around all things new & chic? So, with the help of a few of our favorite MOPs, we are here to prove them all wrong.

This Ain't Your Mom's Crochet

Fully crocheted or crochet accented pieces are all the rage this season. Whether it's a top that's rimmed with crochet or a fully-crocheted dress like Katie is wearing, this is an easy and versatile trend that should be in everyone's closet. Crochet looks better in neutral colors especially when paired with natural and brown tones accessories.

Bold is Better

A huge trend of the season is all things big, bright & bold. Adding color to any outfit is a guaranteed pick-me-up. Gone are the days of all black: spring is back and ready for color & fun! Jaclyn's wearing the perfect spring/summer wedding look. The bold red paired with the flattering print couldn't be a better silhouette for this on-the-go mom. Make sure when you approach this trend to find a hue that suits your hair color and skin tone!

One-Sided Statement

Some women are fearful of asymmetrical necklines, however, these are truly your new best friend. Not only are they uber-flattering, they're a great change from the typical strapless dress. Alicia is ready for a hot date-night in this chic jewel-toned one-shouldered cocktail dress.

70's Flare

A major trend for this season is anything 70s inspired. This is a such an easy trend to incorporate into your everyday wardrobe-- not to mention super-flattering. 90% of body types look more proportional with a flare or bootcut pant, and as we all know the 70s were all about the flared bell bottom. Steffanie is modeling this trend perfectly as it is paired with a mini-floral top & stacked wedges. Whether she's running around town or hanging out on a play date this is such a great go-to-outfit.

Go With the Flow

Going flowy with tops & dresses has always been a mommy-friendly trend in the fashion world. It's a great way to hide any 'flaws' or areas of concern but even more importantly is a comfortable way to look chic & put together. Flowy tops look amazing with skinny jeans & fitted shorts! Throw on some wedges and you're good to go!

Au Neutral

In contrary to the statement we made above about bold colors, nudes & neutrals are super hot for spring 2011. Some women stay away from these colors since they can easily wash you out. If your skin tone tends to blend in with nudes, peaches, and blush tones then white is always a safe bet. Jennifer is hip & ready in her white tunic paired with khakis & wedges!

Mommy Must Haves

Jeans: skinnies (you can do it!), bootcut, and a white pair for summer

Shoes: wedges (a spring must), colored flats, sandals, & cowboy boots (great with dresses)

Accessories: statement jewelry (think bold necklaces & bangles) & bright spring scarves

Dresses: one for date night, running around, & girls' night

Wedge It Out

With each new season comes new shoes, and my personal favorite this spring is the wedge sandal.

What's not to love? They're ten times more comfortable and supportable than a high heel & really allow you to add height to your outfit in really versatile situations, without necessarily dressing up the look.

Think about it, most of the time we wear heels in dressier scenarios, with a wedge you can actually make the outfit look cool & casual, especially with wide leg pants & shorts without making your whole outfit look more done up.

These are super tricky when paired with skinny jeans, but if you find a sleek wedge that isn't too clunky then they're a go. Otherwise, you'll look like you have hooves for feet!

Wedges are the perfect shoe alternative for shorts, skirts, bootcut & wideleg jeans. They're the best option especially if you know you're going to be on your feet all day :)

Last night's performer looked radiant in this Monique Lhuillier sparkler.

Alas, all good things must come to an end. And while last night's awards show seemed to disappoint a lot of the fashion world, I do believe that there were some beautiful moments throughout last night's 83rd annual Oscar red carpet event.

Prima Ballerinas

In my humble opinion, I feel that Black Swan's Natalie Portman saved the best for Oscar. She glowed in her wine colored Rodarte gown, giving a much deserved nod to the film's costume designers. Her co-star, Mila Kunis, was one of my favorites in a peak-a-boo lavendar Elie Saab laced gown, which created an amazing effect on her slender silhouette. She totally rocked that dress.

The Red Sea

Red tones were all the rage last night as red carpet greats, Sandra, Penelope, & Anne looked unbelievable in the evening's chosen hue. One has to point out newbie & nominee Jennifer Lawrence, who set the tone on last night's carpet as the first to arrive in a curve hugging Calvin Klein sleeveless gown. She looked ravishing in this simple yet elegant number & hit the nail on the head by keeping her jewelry uber-simple.

Is Calvin the New Red Carpet Go-To?

Calvin Klein scored another mention yesterday, as Gwyneth Paltrow couldn't have looked more perfect in her poured on silver CK number. Her sleek hair & art-deco Louis Vuitton jewels were the perfect surprise to complete an already perfect look.

Missed Pitch

I don't necessarily want to categorize the following 2 as flubs, because on another night they may not have been. However, in the midst of the rest of the gals, these were my lesser favorite looks. Reese, a la Elle Woods, with her high (extremely bouncy) pony tail looked great in her classic Armani Privé gown, however, no one can ignore the shocking resemblance it had to Julia Robert's Valentino gown she wore on her winning Oscar night. All the while, I really appreciated the emerald jeweled earrings, but sincerely hope that the wedding dress she chooses is more resonant of her fashion reputation we've all grown to love.

Nicole Kidman just didn't cut it for me, and since this strike 2 (possibly 3) of this year's award season, one has to wonder what is going on? My mother is a huge Nicole fan (rightfully so) and adored the gown, I just felt that the front mimicked oragami (which we've seen done so much better-- uhmm Charlize Theron) and was slightly confusing.

I lied, there was a mishap now that I remember, Marisa Tomei. I didn't get it. At all. It was too much. Too much navy, too much tulle, too much dress. At least her hair and jewelry were simple to offset the large amounts of dress below her waist.

Halle & Hailee

Are the yin & yang of the Oscars. The veteran & past-winner versus the young fledgling starlet. However, both chose dazzling muted toned Marchesa sparklers for the event. Halle redeemed her SAG malfunction in a tan Marchesa ah-mazing-ness. She couldn't have looked better, and no one can wear that color better than she can-- no one. Nominee, Hailee Steinfeld graced the carpet in a one-of-kind creation that she helped design. I have to say, based on her 3 red carpet appearances this season she really knows how to hit a high note without dressing older than she is. She is the epitome of what any 14 year-old should wear to these things ;) Not to mention, she's super adorable.

Honorable Mentions

I couldn't bare to leave out Michelle Williams, Amy Adams, & Hilary Swank who all looked gorgeous in their respective dresses. Michelle too did significantly better this go-round looking so chic in her stunning Chanel gown. Amy Adams, rocked her fully-sequined navy short-sleeved L'Wren Scott dress. While I didn't love the necklace choice with the neckline (a big earring would have been enough) the dress fit her so incredibly well and her hair was perfect: loose & flowy to juxtapose the structure of the dress. Hilary looked divine in her slate grey Gucci gown (new look for Gucci I might add) as you all now know I have an avid adoration for all things sequined & feathered... lurve.

The One Who 'Brought It'

I'm sure that all fashion mavens rejoiced as Cate Blanchett perused the red carpet in a pearl & crystal encrusted Givenchy dream dress. It's one of those dresses, that while you're sitting at home on the couch vegging out gawking at all these beautiful ensembles, you think to yourself, "I want to go somewhere to wear something like that!" Then reality smacks you in the face each commercial break.

We all know the Oscars were wanting to appeal to a younger demographic but I'm just gonna throw out there, if you want to appeal to all demographics, I think Sandra Bullock & Robert Downey Jr. should host next year... just sayin'...

In all fairness, no one should really judge Grammy fashion, because much like music, the Grammy red carpet has no rules. Where else would you ever see Lady Gaga arriving in an incubator? Or Katy Perry dressed up like an angel?.. Eh.. you get the point ;)

The guest list is just as eclectic as the fashions. It is a place where the lyrical maestros, rap gods, country crooners, rock legends, soul sisters, & pop princesses convene in one place to honor all things music.

Sequins & sparkle are always a star favorite as shown by Jennifer Lopez, Miley Cyrus, Kim Kardashian (who probably stole that dress right outta Lopez's closet!), among others. My favorite: Selena Gomez was a teenage dream in a liquid gold J.Mendel gown.
Performance-wise, I thought Bieber, Jaden, and Usher were adorable & awesome all at the same time. Being the wedding lover that I am, I couldn't help but think Katy Perry sharing her wedding video during her performance was sooo cute & appropriate on Vday-eve. & I thought the Bruno Mars old school rendition was so amazing! Can't leave out all things Rihanna, looking gorgeous with both Eminem & Drake-- singing 2 of my favorite songs of the year. If I'm going to make my husband sit through all these awards shows with me I also have to give a shout out to the Avett Brothers & Mumford and Sons, as they were his favorite.

And while I love me some Gaga, I don't think her "Born This Way" performance "shift the world" like she had hoped, hell, it barely shifted me.

For me, two things stole the show: Jennifer Hudson's rockin' bod showcased with those gorgeous gold epaulets & peek-a-boo lace bra. As well as Gwyneth Paltrow's sky-high-multi-colored Louboutins during her performance with Ceelo. Meanwhile, my husband wants to know when did she get so hot? Ah, sigh.

The Grammy's never disappoint: they always make us laugh, question, wonder, & entertain. Both the fashions & the performances gave us a solid dose of all of the above!

Ah! Ladies we are 2 for 2 so far this award show season: the Globes and now the SAG Awards did not disappoint. While one didn't necessarily need to tune in to find out who the winners were (practically carbon-copies of the Globes) you did need to get a good glimpse of the red carpet, because almost all the ladies struck different chords last night. To understand the Red Carpet at the Globes, one must know that it's a whole different ball game as far as fashion is concerned, this is a ceremony where the stars unite as fellow actors honoring their peers: this allows for a more laid back fashions & possibly more risks.

Cupcake Queen
I figured this time I would start with my least favorite and save the best for last! Winona, wherever you stole that look you need to bring it back immediately. The dress: too poofy, too bridal, & just not pretty. And then I realized that it really is an actual wedding dress from Alberta Ferretti's 2011 collection. To my knowledge this is a first time for the red carpet, & hopefully the last. (Even though I would totally dye Angie Harmon's Monique Lhuillier confection in a heart beat to wear as a wedding dress ;) I don't quite understand the random black handbag-- something more soft & neutral would have been more appropriate. And the hair? Was just icing on the cake.

A For Effort
There were a few looks last night that while I wasn't swooning over them I definitely loved the look & thought they looked great. It's especially hard to remain unbiased during these shows when you've seen the ladies rock another look in the past that you thought was phenomenal & then see them the next year just looking okay. Glee's Lea Michele for example, I have no complaints or bad things to say about her Oscar de la Renta sparkler but having absolutely fallen in the love with her plunging Malandrino gown for last year... I was expecting more. But appreciate the entire look, especially what she chose to do with her hair.
Nude, one shouldered, & jeweled in music to my ears, however when the nude color blends in with your skin it's not so much my favorite. Someone with Halle Berry's skin tone would have rocked Hilary Swank's Versace gown, but on her it seemed a little too muted. We've all seen her do wonders on the red carpet so this look didn't speak to me like priors have.

The Kids Are All White
A major trend on the red carpet last night was definitely white hot. Natalie, Amy, Winona & Lea all opted for the neutral tone. Natalie's growing baby bump looked adorable in her strapless Azzaro gown & Amy Adams looked to glamorous in her Hervé Leroux silhouette.

Color My World
Another plus from last night, was the elaborate use of color. Prints, stripes, & solids kept us all on our toes. My favorite of the night, Mila Kunis donned a show-stopping Alexander McQueen gown. Her effortless hair matched her free flowing gown perfectly. I loved how it was cinched at the waist with a matching belt (another trend of the evening). Red carpet newbie & nominee, Hailee Steinfield looked adorable in her fun loving striped Prada gown. So far she has done an excellent job looking age appropriate and sophisticated all at the same time. Sofia Veragara yet again showed off her killer curves in a plunging Roberto Cavalli creation in cobalt blue & her mini co-star, Sarah Hyland, donned a gorgeous rust colored Max Azria dress. All the ladies were glowing in their respective colors!

Belt It Out
As I mentioned before, accentuating the waistline was a huge trend last night. Ladies were switching up a straighter silhouette for something that showed off their curves. Jennifer Lawrence opted for a black velvet belt (not my favorite, definitely liked the sparkling belt Oscar sent it down the runway with) and black accessories to pop against the hot pink gown. Mila's McQueen dress came with a matching belt, as well as Claire Danes' breathtaking Louis Vuitton gown. I loved the way the black & teal scalloped together to create such an amazing shape on her. While Rosario Dawson's dress didn't have a true belt, she personified that a wrap waist dress always does wonders for the figure & the pale hue looked remarkable on her skintone.

Thinking Outside of the Box
I still remember as a teenager seeing Julie Bowen in Neutrogena commercials and thinking "Wow, that woman is so beautiful." I'm so happy that she has a hit show that allows us to see her doing more than just washing her face. I love the risk of this outfit-- not to mention how well it fits her. I'm a huge fan of Malandrino & don't think it's worn enough to big time events like these. She looked so elegant & sophisticated in her pantsuit & I really appreciate her taking a fashion step that is usally done wrong.
I understand if you don't agree but I really think the Carolina Herrera gown January Jones wore to the show was a masterpiece and exudes sophistication. Only someone as fashion forward as she could pull something like this with such grace.

Julia Stiles has had some hits & misses on the red carpet, but last night the Dexter actress rocked an ombre Monique Lhullier gown likes nobody's business. Thumbs up for trying something different!

The short of it? I loved Dianna Agron's Chanel Haute Couture tea-length dress. She showed everyone how this season's hot hemline is done!

Anyone who knows me can tell you I have a few favorite pleasures in life: sequins, popcorn, the French Alps, Tory Burch flats-- to name a few. However, my all time favorite moments on television can be described in 3 words: award show season. My first college roommates have all witnessed the amount of joy I feel the morning of an awards' show-- I've even been known to go into song expressing my delight in anticipation of the evening: actresses yearning to leave their stamp on red carpet history. The glitz, the glamour, the fluff, the hair, the jewels, the tulle-- all coalescing together to form gowns & looks to be remembered for years!

Last night did not disappoint. After years of yawning at a sea of strapless dresses & seen-before looks, the ladies were out to make a statement at the 68th Annual Golden Globes. While the men had their football us ladies enjoyed the fashion playoffs being displayed as each gown made its way down one of the world's most famous runways. Pops of color, open backs, & sparkle always makes for an interesting night!

Best Dressed

I had a hard time narrowing down this year because I had a lot of looks I really enjoyed: Olivia Wilde in a dazzling chocolate Marchesa gown, Angelina's stylish Versace number, Claire Danes in a hot backless Calvin Klein, & Mila Kunis in a one-shouldered Vera Wang.

If I have to pick I was only able to narrow it down to two. From the awards' show vets I pick Anne Hathaway (with Rachel Zoe on her side she really can do no wrong). I can't begin to explain how much I love this dress other than: I want it. The gaga-esque shoulders, plunging back, wavy hair, neutral tone, & sequins all came together for one of the most flawless looks of the evening. Second, from the pack of newbies swarming the carpet I would have to choose Emma Stone, who if you saw her quirkiness in Easy A you wouldn't have necessarily pinpointed her as a fashion maven. Boy was I wrong. Her Calvin Klein number stole my heart (I covet it as well.. probably more practical than Anne's Armani number). The structured short sleeves, perfect open back, & coral color was a all-around-awesome combination for the fledgling actress.

Best in Shoe

No one can ignore the crystal encrusted Brian Atwood stunners Megan Fox was rocking with her blush colored Armani Prive dress-- had to point them out!

Least Fave

I couldn't resist because at this point she's so easy to pick on, but nominee Helena Bonham Carter even admitted herself she was dressing to please her 12 year old.. which needless to say probably doesn't do her any favors. While I have a growing appreciation for designer Vivienne Westwood's funky prints & silhouettes-- I think they are better suited for the runway & editorials versus red carpets.

Jennifer Love Hewitt. Why do you continue to do this to me? I can only say: prom & too much.

And I have to mention Lea Michelle's bubble-gum pink Oscar de la Renta gown just really didn't do it for me... then again I had pretty high expectations after her showstopping de la Renta from last year.

When Bad Hair Happens to Good People

Another small anecdote: I heart Sandra Bullock. In my eyes she is the end-all-be-all of Hollywood actresses. After her flawless trio of awards' season gowns from 2010 she deserved a fashion Oscar. & while I did love the pale pink, jeweled Jenni Packman dress she wore last night I just couldn't get over her exessive bangs (especially from a profile view). I just thought it was too much hair for such a pretty, light, & flowy gown.

I also usually love Carrie Underwood's all over looks on the red carpet. I think she has brought such sophistication & elegance to the country music world. Last night I wanted to focus on her beautiful Badgley Mischka gown so badly but was so distracted by the flat pieces of hair she had surrounding her face-- it was barely better than prom hair if you ask me.

Teetering Two

Last but not least I cannot ignore two of my usual favorites on the red carpet: Natalie Portman & Michelle Williams. I couldn't rationalize putting them in either my faves or dislike categories because I did appreciate their looks but didn't love them for this particular occasion. I was so looking forward to seeing what Natalie was going to bring to the carpet & was slightly disappointed by the Viktor & Rolf gown she chose, especially as the picked-to-win (and did win) contender for Best Actress in a Drama. I wasn't a huge fan the of red sequined rose however I love how she took a risk. Michelle Williams on the other had looked adorable in her Valentino- 60s inspired gown & pixie haircut. The whole look works perfectly together but I would have loved it more at a premiere or press junket but not at the Globes.

Under the Radar

Ok I lied. I couldn't just pick 2 favorites. There was one young starlet who was a presenter last night that I wish we would have seen more of because she looked dazzling. Gossip Girl's Leighton Meester was jaw droppingly gorgeous last night in her nude Burberry gown. The fabric was so yummy I wish I could touch it! Such a great way to represent the 20 somethings out there!

As you all know Angelique usually writes the Blog and as she is away in beautiful Cancun with her new hubby I will be your resident blogger for a couple of weeks. So a quick intro, My name is Azin, I am originally from the UK and where I am from Fashion is not just what you put on your back every day it is a way of life. I work in the Midtown store and I love, love, love it. When I first moved out here I struggled to find clothes that matched my style and budget, but one lucky day I stumbled across this little gem of a store and I have never looked back since, I even managed to get myself a job here haha.
I was lucky enough to go home for the holidays and thought I would share with you all the fashions from back home. I bribed one of my beautiful best friends Madeline into being my model, I styled her for the cold months so I could give my new Atlanta family a brief idea of what people are doing with fashion across the water, and how you can still be warm and fabulous. We are so inventive with our fashion, anything can be used as an accessory or piece of clothing and I want to introduce that mentality to all of our beautiful Fab’rik shoppers. When browsing the website or visiting our stores really let your imagination run wild. You CAN wear that dress with them shoes, it IS ok to mix prints, don’t be shy be BOLD. Fashion should tell a story about the person you are!

Picking one piece of clothing as statement piece can really glam up an otherwise plain outfit. I used the trousers to really make this everyday outfit an outfit worthy of going for a meal with the boyfriend or drinks with the girls.

Look 1: Office Party -- The best way to look a bit more conservative is by not showing off a sexy silhouette. Festive Ideas for the Holidays

Here at fab'rik we always love to throw a good party; whether it be birthday, baby shower, bridal shower, engagement, anniversary, or just a random get together-- we are always down for getting the gang together & celebrating just about anything! But we especially love gathering for the holidays.
Who doesn't love a good holiday party? Year after year, people celebrate this time of family & friends with all sorts of themes to bring everyone together.
Having a hard time making up your mind on what you'd like to host this year?
Here is our list of must-have holiday parties:
-Favorite Sweater: old school but never gets old. A great way for both guys & gals to get excited about the holiday season. Rock a favorite sweater from childhood or score one at a thrift store. Makes your outfit selection sooo much easier.
-Tacky Christmas: duh. It's favorite sweater-esque taken to a whole new level. What's more fun that seeing all of your friends decked out in reindeer antlers, jingle bells & wreaths! Over time we've seen some pretty outlandish get ups at these type of gatherings!
-Winter Wonderland: Easy enough: ask all of your friends to gather in winter white, creme, & ivory outfits. These color-based- themed parties are great for pictures & wanting a simple theme to mold your party around.
-Potluck party: makes things easy for the hostess. If you're really wanting to get your group of friends together but don't have hours to spend slaving in the kitchen this is your best option. Send out an evite or mass email (this way everyone can know what everyone's bringing) suggesting different sides, desserts, etc. It's an easy way out of having to throw the whole thing together yourself! & a great way to get new recipe ideas! Which brings us to our next theme...
-Recipe exchange: this is geared more towards the gals. But a really cute idea especially for ladies in their 20s who are still figuring out how to go about hosting their own party. Make it simple: appetizers & drinks, & ask all your guests to bring their preferred holiday recipe on note cards-- enough for each guest. Everyone will love finding out how to make grandma's gingerbread cookies, your family pumpkin pie, etc. all while sipping on a cocktail...
-Mixology party: What's a holiday party without some fun drink options? Another girl friendly idea is a cocktail themed party. Similar to the recipe exchange except better ;) Everyone brings the ingredients to their favorite party (hopefully holiday inspired) drinks to share with friends while mingling with friends. Here's one of our favorite cocktails with a festive twist: We call it the Christmas Collins: First fill a cocktail shaker with cracked ice. Add gin (preferably Bombay), lemon juice & sugar. Shake about 5 times. Then fill an 8 oz. glass with about a palm-full of pomegranate seeds. After, pour our mixture from the cocktail shaker into the glass & top it off with a sprig of thyme-- which mocks a mistletoe!
-Ornament Exchange: My girlfriends & I used to do this in high school, & as the years have gone on I cherish the memories from these get togethers the most from holiday seasons' past. Everyone brings an ornament & follows the rules much like a white elephant gift exchange. It's a great way to get some adorable ornaments to add to your Christmas trees over the years.
-XXXmas Party: Now I suppose it's only fitting for the adult version of the ornament exchange party that my friends & I have migrated to over the past couple of years. Same concept-- different gifts. We each bring some lingerie under $40 and have a hilarious time laughing as everyone fights over lingerie... my how times have changed ;)

Family Function-al

So with the holidays comes loads of family functions. While you're busy juggling cocktail parties & soirees the majority of the year where anything in your closet goes, November & December ask for a more conservative approach to celebrating. I mean, let's be serious, you can't show up at grandma's with 5 inch stilettos & a mini skirt!

Take the fab'rik approach to holiday festivity shopping: buy things that are appropriate but versatile. I'll go ahead & call myself out on this blog-- I am totally 100% biased. While I do love all things that I blog about: fab'rik, jeggings, shoes, weddings, etc. I can't even begin to describe in words how much I love today's subject: Savannah Rae.

Last Friday night was such a special evening for us fab'rik ladies. One of our very own, Amanda Wheeler, debuted her fashion line at our midtown store. We had a full-on launch party & fashion show, showcasing the Savannah Rae brand for all the world to see! Friends, family, customers, gathered on October 22nd to be the first to see, try on, & buy the easy to wear line.

One of my best friends is walking down the aisle this weekend :) For this particular wedding I got lucky: all I have to do is slide on my bridesmaid's dress but for those of you that are attending fall weddings as guests... here's a little crash course!
Shopping for weddings in general is always very tricky. We've already discussed this subject once before. However, each season is a new monster in the wedding attire world & fall seems to be the most challenging of all. The weather is so unpredictable (hello, it was 50 degrees last week & 85 this week!) & depending on the time of the wedding, you can get a real headache weighing out all of your viable options.
Basic Black-- I know, I know you're not attending a funeral. However, if you're attending a fall wedding in the evening this is your best and safest bet. It will allow you to accessorize according to the occasion & of course can be worn on various other occasions!
Fall Hues-- A given. But anything in the browns, plums, taupes, rust colors is always so beautiful when the leaves are changing.
Layers-- See what summer dresses you can wear with either a cardigan or tights to make a summery dress translate well into the fall months. Even think wraps, shawls, capes, & scarves to help you take your look year round.
Layers, more specifically: Blazers-- Use this classic piece every girl should have in their closet to not only make a look more conservative (especially for a church ceremony) but to stay warm if the temperature drops after the sun goes down! Cocktail-- If you're attending an after 5 wedding, any sort of cocktail dress (not to revealing or short of course) is a perfect option! Throw on a cute pump or bootie & you're ready to go!
Timing is everything-- The actual time the ceremony is taking place is the key factor to determining attire for any wedding. A cute skirt & cardigan combo is perfect for an afternoon wedding while a dressier option is most suitable for evening.
